
CE's Powerline Technicians (PLTs) are responsible for the construction and maintenance of power lines throughout our service area.
This registered apprenticeship program involves successful completion of Levels 1-4 of in-school training as well as proven on-the-job competency and required hours worked in the trade to be a certified Powerline Technician.
With experience and training, PLT's within our company can progress to become Line Lead Hands, Line Forepersons, Supervisors, and much, much, more! The knowledge and skills acquired within this department are beneficial to many other teams and departments throughout our organization!
Requirements
Participants in the Power Line Technician Apprenticeship Program must have and meet the following:- College graduate of a Powerline Technician program
- Comply with residency requirements to remain within twenty (20) minutes driving time of the Cornwall service center to better respond to emergencies and on-call duties
- Valid Ontario AZ driver's license with a clean driving record
- Physically able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions
- General knowledge of line materials, trade related practices/standards and operating rules and regulations is an asset
- Good communication (verbal and written) skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, customers, and industry partners
- Must work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisor and peers
- Ability to think critically and analytically with strong problem solving and decision-making skills
- Unrelenting commitment and passion to safety, ethics, and continuous improvement
- Be subject to a criminal, financial, and educational background check

This role uses, programs, installs, analyzes, troubleshoots, and repairs a variety of relaying devices and associated test equipment. This position also constructs, installs, operates, and maintains new and existing equipment in Substations, buildings, structures, properties and generating facilities. This role also works in the Control Room as a Relief Operator when required.
This apprenticeship program involves successful completion of Levels 1-3 of in-school training in the Substation Electrician program as well as the required hours worked in the trade; in addition, the successful completion of the self-study training and testing for Electrical Operator as well as proven on-the-job competency and required hours are required to be a certified Power Systems Technician.

Requirements
Participants in the Power Systems Technician Apprenticeship Program must have and meet the following:- Graduate of a three year technologist program from a recognized community college program or equivalent.
- Comply with residency requirements to remain within twenty (20) minutes driving time of the Cornwall service center to better respond to emergencies and on-call duties
- Valid Ontario DZ driver's license with a clean driving record
- Physically able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions
- Advanced computer skills with practical knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Good communication (verbal and written) skills as well as the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, customers, and industry partners
- Must work effectively in a team environment and follow instructions from supervisor and peers
- Ability to read and understand electrical blueprints and schematic drawings
- Ability to think critically and analytically with strong problem solving and decision-making skills
