Electrical inspections are required by law and are meant to keep the people in their homes and businesses safe from electrical hazards.
The Electrical Safety Authority
(ESA) handles all electrical inspections in Ontario. ESA Inspectors ensure that electrical work, done by yourself or an electrical contractor, is completed in compliance with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code
(Ontario Regulation 10/02) and with the requirements of the Electricity Act 1998
. This code of provincial standards ensures the safety of all electrical installations and electrical products.
You are required to conduct an electrical inspection after any electrical installation, renovation or alteration to electrical components. This applies to private homes, offices, industrial buildings and income properties and includes the following:
Installation of outlets, switches, lighting fixtures, baseboard heaters, smoke detectors (excluding battery-operated units), exhaust fans etc.
Installation of new equipment including heat pumps, water heaters, air conditioning, swimming pools, whirlpools, saunas etc.
Electrical service upgrades and changes
New homes, additions and renovations
