Our Project

Cornwall Electric is upgrading to Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) meters across its service territory. Approximately 30,000 meters will be upgraded in stages to minimize disruption.

Cornwall Electric’s AMI project is driven by an aging meter fleet nearing seal expiry. Combined with modern communication networks and data management systems, AMI meters will improve how Cornwall Electric monitors and responds to its system, including restoring power more quickly during outages.

By investing in AMI meters, we are modernizing the energy grid to improve how we serve you today and in the future.

Timeline

We’re rolling out the AMI upgrade in stages over several years to make the process as smooth as possible for you. A pilot program will take place in November and December 2026, followed by full deployment beginning in 2027. This approach allows Cornwall Electric to refine the process before expanding across our service area.

You’ll be notified in advance when installation is scheduled in your area, so you know what to expect.

What to Expect on Installation Day

Most upgrades will be quick and straightforward:

  • You don’t need to be home
  • Please make sure there’s a clear path to your meter
  • Your power will be off for a few minutes
  • We’ll check your existing service to ensure everything is safe
  • If we identify any issues, we’ll contact you and walk you through the next steps
