What is AMI Metering?
AMI meters are modern digital meters that automatically and securely record your electricity use, eliminating the need for monthly or bi-monthly meter reading trips. They are the standard across Ontario and are designed to meet strict privacy, security, and regulatory standards to protect your information.
The upgrade to AMI meters will enable Cornwall Electric to automatically detect outages and respond faster to issues. Reliable service remains our priority. AMI meters will also allow for hourly readings by customers signed up for e-billing, so you can better understand your energy use, spot unusual consumption, and make more informed decisions.

AMI meters vs. Current meters
Traditional electricity meters need to be read manually and rely on estimated readings when access is not available, which can make it harder to see exactly how much energy you’re using and when.
Advanced Metering Infrastructure, or "AMI", meters make things easier by automatically and securely recording your electricity use, so your bill is based on actual consumption.
Combined with modern communication networks and data management systems, AMI meters will improve how Cornwall Electric monitors and responds to its system, including restoring power more quickly during outages.
AMI meters give you better insight into your energy use, help us detect outages more quickly, and allow for faster, more efficient service.
