Why is my spring electric bill higher?
  • Your spring bill actually covers a portion of the winter period.
  • Houseguests and students home for the holidays means more electricity is used.
  • Even though you may be on vacation, your refrigerator/freezer is still working and using electricity. It may even work harder if it's nearly empty.
  • Special cleaning, and the extra washing, drying and ironing to prepare for and when returning from a vacation means more electricity used.

What do I do when there is a power interruption?
  • Check to see if your neighbours have power.
  • Check your fuse box or control panel for a burned fuse or tripped breaker.
  • Unplug any sensitive electronic equipment, such as computers, stereos and TVs.
  • Open your refrigerator/freezer as little as possible to retain the temperature.
  • Call your local electric company.
